Why Slagomite

Soda-lime silica glass is the most common type of glass produced and used in the glass industry. It is made from a mixture of raw materials that includes sand (silica), soda ash (sodium carbonate), and limestone (calcium carbonate). The soda ash and limestone act as fluxes, which lower the melting temperature of the silica.

Reasons for using soda-lime silica glass in the glass industry:

  • Inexpensive: Soda-lime silica glass is relatively inexpensive to produce, making it a cost-effective choice for a wide range of applications.
  • Chemically stable: Soda-lime silica glass is resistant to chemical attack, making it suitable for use in a variety of environments.
  • Reasonably hard: Soda-lime silica glass is harder than some other types of glass, such as borosilicate glass. This makes it more durable and less likely to break.
  • Extremely workable: Soda-lime silica glass is easy to work with, making it suitable for a wide range of manufacturing processes. It can be blown, pressed, and rolled into a variety of shapes and sizes.
  • Recyclable: Soda-lime silica glass is highly recyclable, which makes it a sustainable choice.
